The Castelserranova estate, located in the area of Carovigno, is a large agricultural estate of 312 hectares, bordering right on the Adriatic Sea. Castelserranova boasts an expanse of spectacular, centuries-old olive trees, as well as others more recently planted, which include olive varieties innovative for the area; its highly-respected extravirgin olive oil has achieved the Colline Brindisine DOP denomination. In addition, a great stretch of land is devoted to food crops and especially artichokes.
Vineyards have only recently returned to the estate, with 20 hectares already under vine and more to come.
In the heart of the estate rises the Castello di Serranova, which encloses the distinctive 15th-century Saracen defensive tower that gave the area its name.
Thanks to the perennial cooling breezes provided by the neighbouring sea, Castel Serranova is admirably suited to the delicate operation of air-drying of the grapes in lofts and on mats for the production of some of our special wines. The spacious estate courtyard is where the grapes are carefully dried for our "passito" wines, sauvignon blanc and malvasia bianca for the Passo de le Viscarde, and negroamaro for Graticciaia.
